Click to Zoom Have you ever imagined what life was like in the old days? When we say old days, we mean “prehistoric times”. Prehistory is a term used to describe the period before recorded time and differs on geographic location. In the Americas, prehistoric refers to any time before the invasion of Christopher Columbus Although there is no European documentation for our prehistory, we do have Native American Indian artifacts that tell stories of our past. This past stretches back as far as 14, years. The Timeline Goal The goal was to create a timeline with a full range of prehistoric arrowhead types in chronological order. Creating a type collection can be a challenge. Some museums can’t seem to do it – see below But this isn’t just a type collection, it is a local type collection where every single arrowhead was locally found.

Two giant sacrificial pits were unearthed containing thousands of gold, bronze, jade, ivory and pottery artifacts that were so unusual and unlike anything ever found in China before, that archaeologists realised they had just opened the door to an ancient culture dating back between 3, and 5, years. Despite the fact that there are millions of people who are convinced we have been contacted in the distant past by ancient alien astronauts—and are still being visited—the majority of society remains unconvinced aliens are real. Many would say that there is ample evidence of alien contact if we carefully study ancient civilizations that existed on Earth thousands of years ago, in Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Asia and the Americas.
Wherever we look, we find evidence what today can easily be interpreted as alien contact. Centuries after the fall of great ancient civilizations like the Ancient Maya, Aztecs, Inca, etc, the question regarding alien life remained present in society. Throughout history, countless researchers, philosophers, and scientists have wondered whether or not there is life beyond the limits of Earth.
Some were even punished for speaking out about aliens like Giordano Bruno. Centuries after Bruno, philosophers, researchers, and scientists continued asking the question, are we alone out there.

Marbles By Patricia Samford Marbles are one of the most common toys found on North American historic period archaeological sites. This essay will attempt to provide dating and identification tools for ceramic, stone and glass marbles typically found on these sites. This essay and tool is in no way intended to be a comprehensive guide to marbles, since there are many excellent published and online sources, particularly for the types of glass marbles highly sought by collectors.
Table 1 provides a summary of the date ranges and characteristics of the marble types discussed in this essay. Because there is a great deal of source material for dating marbles, site summaries are not provided for this Small Finds category.

Devonian Relics Earth Sculpted by Ice: Near the end of the Devonian Period some million years ago – long before Earth’s Ice Ages – Illinois, as well as much of the Midwestern United States, was at the bottom of a shallow sea teeming with life. From the vault – Native American How does one determine a site where Indians may have lived? It is easy to guess, except the answer is not always right. Drive along a river road, say somewhere in eastern Massachusetts. It is also a place that the Indians of Massachusetts would choose for a home, for good and practical reasons. They lived whenever possible near rivers and larger brooks, not only for the water, but for the Ipswich rivers. In the area where the Concord and the Merrimack meet, among a number of hills in what is now Lowell, was the Wamesit village.
It is to be doubted that there were camps on Ames Hill, because Ames Pond, below it, was formed after the Civil War by a dam constructed across Strongwater Brook. Then, too, they could have been Shawshins, who seem to have been in the area that is now Billerica. There is no such tribal or family name for the Indians who lived in what is now Wilmington. They could have been Wamesits, or Shawshins, or perhaps Saugusts, Indians who lived farther south. There were Indian villages along the Shawsheen River, on several sites.
Looking upstream from the Route bridge at the Wilmington – Billerica line, there is a high bank along the eastern side of the river.

A team of archaeologists in scuba gear combs what was once dry land for pre-Lenape artifacts Tuesday, August 26, photos by Tony Hurdzuk Star-Ledger Staff Fifty feet below the surface of the Atlantic, Greg Porter knelt on the ocean floor and began to fan his gloved hand over the sand, looking for evidence of some of the first New Jerseyans. The current created by the slow movement of his hand cleared a small hole next to the bent knees of the anthropology student. As the silt cleared, Porter saw it: It was too black and porous-looking to be a rock.
Encouraged, Porter and his diving partner placed the object in a plastic bag. Soon they started the slow ascent through the murky water back to the surface. There an archaeologist reinforced Porter’s hopes. The object was probably a charred mammal bone – perhaps the leftovers of a 10, year-old lunch of one of the first residents of the Jersey Shore.
